Injuries of the posterior cruciate ligament

The posterior cruciate ligament can easily be recognized in MRT

Injuries of the posterior cruciate ligament mainly appear within the scope of external forces like for example car accidents or during ball sport games (rugby, American football, handball).

These injuries are way rarer then tears of the anterior cruciate ligament and can be healed operatively, but often even without a surgery. The operation depends on the degree of instability, the complaints and most of all the physical requirements oft he patient. For the assessment of instability so-called held radiographs should be performed or the increased deflection should be measured with a special tester directly on the knee.
